Recent advances in Web and middleware technologiesoffer a promising solution for a number of enterpriseintegration problems. The convergence of the Internet anddistributed-object technologies, which has been referredto as the Internet's third wave, extends this "information-based"Internet to a worldwide "services-based" Web. Inthis paper we present a model for Enterprise ApplicationIntegration (EAI) and we discuss the role of emergingtechnologies, as they relate to the specification ofservices, registration of services, data integration, andcontrol integration.
