Abstract

In May 2001, trial version of the Guide to theSoftware Engineering Body of Knowledge(SWEBOK) was released in a web format and, inDecember 2001, in book format with the intent tocollect comments and possible improvements. Upto now, feedback received confirmed theusefulness of the Guide for all documentedknowledge areas, with the exception of thesoftware construction knowledge area, for whichthe content does not map easily to industrypractices or to actual academic curricula. We conducted a review of the chapter toidentify the level of experimental support foreach topic mentioned in this chapter. In order toclassify the level of support, the classification intwelve experimental methods for validatingtechnology by Zelkowitz and Wallace is used. Itpermits the identification of some of itsweaknesses and provides further guidance oncontent improvements of the chapter.
