Abstract

This paper addresses the problem of schedulingparallel communication-aware tasks onto networks ofworkstations in heterogeneous computing environments.Many previous works have focused on the schedulingproblem from the aspect of computation. However, as thecomputational power of new-added workstationsincreases, the communication mechanism may become thebottleneck of the system. Therefore, an algorithm isproposed to schedule parallel tasks by considering thecommunication requirements of the applications and thenetwork bandwidth. Experimental results show thesuperiority of the algorithm over that presented inprevious literature.
