Abstract

The information society develops a novel and comprehensivevision of governance with knowledge as core part. For building Knowledge Management Systems (KMS), amere transferring of concepts from the private sector to thepublic area will not suffice; approaches of their own arenecessary. For this purpose, Public Administration in generalas well as in typical applications is juxtaposed withmain features of KMS. Focal question is how features ofKMS technology can meet requests derived from administrativework. The outcome is a remarkable picture showingbright options and possibilities, shortfalls and indicationsfor further development.
