In this paper we discuss how the notion of software component can be turned into a specification language concept. Such component description languages (CDL) would directly support reuse, flexible construction of large systems and team-work. First we analyze important requirements to CDLs and discuss the component support of different languages. Finally we discuss extensions necessary to cover also quantitative aspects in component descriptions.
