Abstract

The objective of this paper is to examine the contribution of verbally coded information to the interactivity of web pages. The language of hyperlink and button links is analysed with regard to its reference to concrete user action, virtual interactive operation and target page content. The interactivity is measured on the basis of the significance of the consequences of clicking an interactive label. The data has been gathered from the websites of English-language electronic stores. The role of linguistic code is examined from the perspective of relevance to the user. The correct prediction of relevánce is assumed to contribute to interactivity by increasing confidence and reducing hesitation.
