The lack of end-to-end quality of service support in thecurrent Internet has caused significant difficulties toensuring playback continuity in video streamingapplications. This study addresses this challenge byinvestigating a new adaptation algorithm to adjust thebit-rate of video data in response to the networkbandwidth available to improve playback continuity.Unlike previous works, the proposed algorithm istransparent to the video client, requires no parametertuning, and yet can outperform existing algorithms. Thispaper presents this algorithm, evaluates and compares itsperformance with the best algorithm currently availableusing extensive trace-driven simulations.
