The explosive growth in online information is making itharder for large, globally distributed organizations to fostercollaboration and leverage their intellectual assets. Recently, there has been a growing interest in the developmentof next generation knowledge management systemsfocussing on the artificial intelligence based technologies. We propose a generic knowledge management system architecturebased on ADIPS (Agent-based Distributed InformationProcessing System) framework. This contributes tothe stream of research on intelligent KM system to supportsthe creation, acquisition, management, and sharingof information that is widely distributed over a network system. It will benefit the users through the automatic provisionof timely and relevant information with minimal effortto search for that information. Ontologies which standout as a keystone of new generation of multi-agent informationsystems, are used for the purpose of structuring the resources. This framework provides personalized informationdelivery, identifies items of interest to user proactively andenables unwavering management of distributed intellectualassets.
