Abstract

This paper discusses the mobile Internet access inthe context of project BAS (Business As uSual), whichplans to develop a system that connects all the publicservice buses as nodes in an ad hoc network and usethis network to provide a wide range of services thatare perceived to be useful to commuters. In our system, the heterogeneous communication between wireless busad hoc network and Internet is established with theinstallation of specific access routers along theroadside, which serves as gateways between these twotypes of networks. However, the Internet integration ofwireless bus ad hoc network with the Internet facesmany challenges, such as gateway discovery, mobilitymanagement and the routing procedure. In this paper,we propose an architecture that addresses these issues.Additionally, this architecture allows passengers toaccess the Internet with their mobile devices byusingvia this bus ad hoc network, thus and possiblyreducing their access and usage costs greatly.
