This paper deals with the stochastic analysis of a sub-pixel edge detector. Under basic assumptions on the noise present in the image (white Gaussian and additive), we derive the two first-order moments of the sub-pixel edge position. Besides possibly using these results to evaluate the quality of the detection, this model shows the existence of a skew on the estimated position which can then be corrected. In order to validate the model, the theoretical results obtained are compared with experimental simulations.
