Continuous system models are becoming increasinglymore important in the modeling and analysis of complexsystems. Unfortunately, the runtime simulation costs requiredto support continuous modeling can be prohibitiveto their use. One technique to decrease simulation runtimecosts is mixed-domain simulation where the system is modeledby a mixture of discrete and continuous elements. Inthose regions where highly detailed information is required, continuous models can be used, and discrete models can beused otherwise. In this paper, we present a simulation backplaneand its scheduling algorithm that can be used to integrateexisting discrete and continuous simulators to form asingle unified mixed-domain simulation environment.
