Abstract

This paper presents an assessment of the usage ofan improved Electronic Process Guide/ExperienceRepository (EPG/ER) tool about a year after itsinstallation in a small-to-medium softwaredevelopment company (SME). The current study, conducted over 21 weeks, reveals the long-term effectsof EPG/ER usage in the company. The findings notonly validate results from previously publishedpreliminary evaluations on the effectiveness of theEPG/ER as a Software Process Improvement (SPI)tool but also demonstrate the ability of the EPG/ER tobe incrementally improved to suit the changing needsof the company. Our study shows that tangible benefitsfrom the use of the EPG/ER can not only be realizedquickly but also, more importantly, that the toolremains useful with many more benefits accruing overtime.
