Abstract

Semantic Web endeavors have mainly focused on issuespertaining to knowledge representation and ontology design. However, besides understanding information metadatastated by subjects, knowing about their credibility becomesequally crucial. Hence, trust and trust metrics, conceivedas computational means to evaluate trust relationshipsbetween individuals, come into play. Our major contributionsto SemanticWeb trust management through thispaper are twofold. First, we introduce our classi.cationscheme for trust metrics along various axes and discussadvantages and drawbacks of existing approaches for SemanticWeb scenarios. Hereby, we will devise our advocacyfor local group trust metrics, guiding us to the secondpart which presents Appleseed, our novel proposal for localgroup trust computation. Compelling in its simplicity, Appleseedborrows many ideas from spreading activation modelsin psychology and relates their concepts to trust evaluationin an intuitive fashion.
