Abstract

Due to overall popularity of the Internet, e-learninghas become a hot method of learning in recent years.Through the Internet, learners can freely absorb newknowledge without the restriction of time and place. Many companies have adopted e-learning to train theiremployees. The e-learning system can make anenterprise more competitive by increasing theknowledge of its employees. As we know, e-learning hasbecome one of the most potential e-commercebusinesses.At present, most e-learning environmentarchitectures are in consideration of a single computeror server as its erecting foundation. As soon as its workload increases, the software and hardware need to beupdated or renewed; this is a big burden to a companywith insufficient budget. Thus, in this research weemploy a kind of Grid Computing technology, called"Access Grid", to integrate the idle computer resourcesin an enterprise into an e-learning platform forsubstituting the purchase of costly high-level server andequipment. The Access Grid supports group-to-groupcommunication via high-speed networking over theInternet. It provides high quality audio and real-timevideo interactive interface for e-learning users. All thehardware cost is reasonable so that companies oracademies can easily set up their own Access GridNode. By using Access Grid technologies, enterprisescan integrate their training materials into knowledgerepository such as "Data Grid" as the e-learning VODplatform so that the knowledge can be shared andpublished more flexibly and widely.
