Abstract

Facial movements play an important role in interpretingspoken conversations and emotions. There are several typesof movements, such as conversational signals, emotion displays, etc. We call these channels of facial movement. Realisticanimation of these movements would improve the realism, liveliness of the interaction between human and computersusing embodied conversational agents. To date, noappropriate methods have been proposed for integrating allfacial movements. We propose in this paper a scheme ofcombining facial movements on a 3D talking head. First,we concatenate the movements in the same channel to generatesmooth transitions between adjacent movements. Thiscombination only applies to individual muscles. The movementsfrom all channels are then combined taking into accountthe resolution of possible conflicting muscles.
