Abstract

Location management is a challenging part in mobile communication. Studying the situation that the count of mobiles crossing location areas between two data traffic arrivals is significant to evaluate the costs and performances of various location management strategies, when 4G mobile communication faces vast data traffic. In this paper, we propose a new model for mobile terminal movement in personal communications services networks. Based on this model with Markov arrival process for data traffic arrival process to mobile terminal, general distribution time the mobile terminal resides in LAo, another general distribution time the mobile terminal resides in LAn, by using density evolution method, we present a general distribution formula of the count of mobiles crossing location areas between two successive data traffic arrivals.
