Abstract

Computer conferencing (CC) is a structured computer-mediated group discussion embodying the concept developed in the early 1970s that one could facilitate group communication processes by using the logical and processing capabilities of the computer (Hiltz and Turoff, 1993). It had its philosophical foundation in the development of the Delphi Method (Turoff and Hiltz, 1995). The nature of the communication process can be modified to respond to the requirements of the application and the nature of the group. With this technology, individuals participating in a group communication process no longer have to be coincident in either time or place.
