Abstract

Computer technology has transformed entertainment. Television has grown more powerful because of computer assistance, providing multiple windows, programmed recording, digitally enhanced images, and even Internet (q.v.) access. Computer technology has also introduced digital audio and video technologies that provide higher quality recordings. Video cassette recorders have been replaced by laser disc players and digital video discs (DVDs) which allow real-time random access of data (see OPTICAL STORAGE). There are also any number of home videogames, which are computer-controlled. These videogames are popular in arcades and public entertainment centers as well. They use computer-control in simulator rides, multimedia presentations, and multiple screen video displays.
