Abstract

From 2000 to 2002, the bursting of the dot-com bubble spooked the markets. The collapse taught some important lessons to the e-business companies and let them know that they need new strategies to do business. The purpose of this paper is to probe the essence of e-business strategy. E-business offers important advantages over its predecessor. But the process-based e-business cannot enable the integration of the value chain and entire value system. Internet enables the integration of the value chain and entire value systems. One of the greatest impacts of the Internet has been to enable the reconfiguration of existing industries. But Internet applications are not stand-alone technologies; they must be integrated into the overall value chain. The supply chain needs flexibility. Technology plays an extremely important role for an e-business that wants to gain 'first mover advantage'. The paper discusses the reasons for business to adopt the strategies and analyzes some limitations tied with the approaches. Then it evaluates the role of technology in gaining 'first mover advantage' by analyzing a successful e-business company.
