Abstract

Scenarios can be a useful tool in IT development, but there's often confusion about how to manage them. This confusion can keep projects reacting to events rather than proactively countering them. In this article, the author outlines how best to incorporate scenario management as an analytical tool into IT projects. The article gives examples of how security and crime-fighting scenarios are used by the police and US Homeland Security and discusses the differences between scenarios and traditional planning techniques.
