Abstract

An introductory web design course affords an opportunity to treat many topics of importance in computer science: human-computer interaction, social and ethical issues, concepts of programming, and the use of color and typography. By designing web sites for non-profit agencies students also gain experience in software development, prototyping and testing with users. The course can additionally be structured to emphasize skills such as collaborative teamwork, writing and public speaking.
