The known TDMA-based media access control (MAC) schemes for ad hoc and sensor networks are always centralized or not adaptive or suffering the exposed terminal problem. In this paper, we propose an adaptive and distributed STDMA scheme (DTDMA), which avoids both the hidden terminal problem and the exposed terminal problem. The main scheme is to find the maximum noninterference link set (MNS) distributedly based on enhanced RTS-CTS scheme, fixed ACK and neighborhood information. Simulation results show that DTDMA has good performances and remarkably outperforms B-MAC, which is the best contention-based MAC protocol for sensor networks.
