Guard channel sharing scheme, which the data traffic can use parts of the residual channels of voice guard channels on condition that the handoff requests have higher priority over data packets, has been evidenced that outperforms than conventional dedicated data guard channel scheme in integrated voice/data mobile networks. In this paper, we investigate a guard channel allocation scheme based on the guard channel sharing scheme that can jointly provide dynamic allocation of both voice and data guard channels in order to improve channel utilization and consequently keep the different services' QoS requirements as possible. The proposed scheme is convergent quickly and easy in implementation. Simulations are used to evaluate the performance which includes new call blocking/ handoff call force terminating probabilities, and average data packet delay of the system.
