An extensible metadata framework for describing virtual reality and multimedia contents stored in databases is described. The database design is based on meta-schema approach allowing any metadata schema to be used while at the same time providing consistency and efficiency of relational databases. A novel approach to building metadata-based dynamic classification hierarchies is proposed. Novel user-interface design paradigm for metadata management is also presented.
