Abstract

Many different tools are available to conduct surveys that are required as part of the assessment process. In this paper, we will describe a uniquely flexible, simple, yet very powerful, application that we have developed to assist with the process of collecting data to measure student outcomes. Use of this tool has also led to improved communication within our department. A unique feature of this tool is that it allows a survey administrator to create surveys containing questions designed to measure departmental objectives and to elicit faculty observations of the success of educational approaches used in classes and of textbooks, equipment, classrooms, and so forth. Surveys are completed at the end of each semester by every faculty member who has taught a section of a course that is part of the major. The system allows faculty to log in, complete the surveys that have been assigned to them, and publish finished surveys to all faculty who use the system. Survey results are collected in a database for future analysis and study.
