The unprecedented technological advances in the areas of computing, communications and IC implementation has stimulated increasing research in establishing intelligent spaces for various scenarios and applications. Capitalizing on such developments, intelligent transportation systems are expected to evolve into the intelligent transportation spaces. ITSPs will greatly impact the current concept and infrastructure of transportation by facilitating safe, efficient and enjoyable travel. This article provides an overview of the major attributes, design requirements, and fundamental components of the ITSP.
