Abstract

Multimedia has always aimed for interactivity. However, interaction has long been seen as "click, select, and consume." This article discusses the potential and challenges of the next generation of interaction, in which users get involved and shape their own multimedia world. Consumption and production of multimedia melt into a reflexive and directly interactive process.
