This paper describes a machine learning technique that applies bioinformatics concepts from genome sequencing and data mining to learn the lexical structure of a language during the lexicon building process. Human linguists are fully integrated in the learning process. Phonetic mapping of input data ensures the universal applicability of the technique including application in reverse to obtain a linguistic treatment of biological data.
