Abstract

This paper describes the laboratory projects developed in a system and network administration course in an Applied Computer Science Master's program. When teaching such a course, one often faces the challenge of setting up the necessary network environment for hands-on exercises. It is often impractical and expensive to set aside some computers, network devices and lab space just for one or two courses in a university environment. We used Virtual PC technology to achieve cost savings and lab access flexibility. To expose students to multiple platforms, the projects covered both Windows and Linux environment.
