This paper takes the position that there are fundamental computing skills and knowledge that all students should acquire before graduating from college, and that many, if not most, students do not come to college with those computing skills and knowledge; and that therefore a course, or courses, covering this material should be available for those students. To support this position this paper (a) considers the computing skills and knowledge that every student should acquire before graduating from college, (b) describes a course designed to provide those skills and knowledge, and (c) presents the results of research that suggests that many students do not have those skills and knowledge when they enter college, and that there is a significant improvement in those areas after completing the course described in (b) above.
