In this article, we address groupware patterns from a holistic perspective. We discuss how a groupware application can gain wholeness from the application of structure-preserving transformations; two concepts that are important in the philosophy of Christopher Alexander. A concrete example shows how pattern sequences can support the development of a collaboration space for collaborative learning.
