Abstract

MPEG-4 is an object-based standard for compressing multimedia content. In particular, it describes the means for representing video as objects and compressing each one of them. Pervasive devices can decode and present MPEG-4 content for mobile entertainment. The authors present a technique for streaming synthesized 3D computer graphics scenes to such devices. The technique improves the quality of the resulting video for a given network bandwidth. The authors also describe how to further improve the compression ratio by using object-based approach.
