Some applications of visualization, based on an information flow model, are discussed. The model, which is described in detail, is designed to help in grasping an overview of this subject. It serves as a framework for describing various topics related to visualization in scientific and engineering computation. It consists of mathematical modeling, numerical solution and scientific computing, graph evaluation by extracting geometry, and transforming and rendering. To indicate trends and directions in visualization, three rather broad representative issues are discussed. They are algorithms and techniques for multidimensional data, user interfaces, and workload distribution and computing/network requirements
