Abstract

Wide-Angle lenses have broad applications in lots of fields for their larger fields of view. However, image deformation is its main backward. Thus, calibration of distortion parameters of wide-angle lens is an essential procedure for 3D information recovering from 2D images in applications. Based on our 3D welding seam extraction system, we propose a nonlinear calibration method by using calibration grid. This simple method only considers the distortion parameters so that the coupling between internal and external parameters of the camera is avoided. Moreover, it needs only feature point series which satisfy cross-ratio invariability, and need not know the exact position coordinates of the points. The nonlinear optimization is fast since the initial value of the distortion parameters can be obtained with cross-ratio invariability. Experiments show the efficiency and practicality of our method directly.
