Abstract

As the government and political process become more transparent, participatory, online, and multimedia rich, there is a great opportunity for adopting advanced artificial intelligence and intelligent systems research in e-government and politics 2.0 applications. The six essays in this installment of Trends & Controversies explore how AI research is enriching e-government and e-participation: in political organizing and campaigns; blogosphere analysis; public commentary systems; ecology research and resource management; policy development tools based on social network analysis and argumentation mining, analysis, and visualization; and in e-government development in Asia.
