This work presents a cooperative dynamic power management method and its implementation. The implementation consists of design of a real-time OS, applications including MPEG-4, and development of a supporting hardware platform with an off-the-shelf processor. We describe several factors that are important in the implementation and discuss its efficiency through experiment. The experimental results with the prototype system shows that 74% power saving is possible in multi-task multimedia environment.
