In this paper, a simple tuning method for phase-lead compensators with specifications of gain and phase margins is proposed. It can achieve the given margins exactly regardless of the plant order, time delay or damping nature. The solutions are found from the intersections of the curves of two real functions plotted using the frequency response of the plant only. An example is provided for illustration and comparison.
