To improve overall cell loss rate and fairness problem in shared-buffer switches, a new output-queued shared-buffer switch is proposed in this paper. In the proposed shared-buffer switches, a novel structure of output queues is used to improve the behavior of cell loss rate and resolve the fairness problem. Performance of the proposed output-queued shared-buffer switch is analyzed and compared. According to the analyzed results, the proposed shared-buffer switches show superior performance and overcome the fairness problem. Besides, the proposed buffer architecture is simple to implement in the high-speed packet switches.
