The asynchronous capabilities of electronic fora allows for more thought, reflection and processing of information and provides a high level of interactivity, which encourages collaboration and influences the learning process. This article focuses on the student participation research in distance education fora, investigating the reasons that influence the participation of students in a forum, by studying the causes that strengthen or discourage participation in the distance education fora.
