Abstract

This paper is a survey of inductive rule learning algorithms thatuse a separate-and-conquer strategy. This strategy can betraced back to the AQ learning system and still enjoys popularityas can be seen from its frequent use in inductive logicprogramming systems. We will put this wide variety of algorithmsinto a single framework and analyze them along three differentdimensions, namely their search, language and overfittingavoidance biases.
