Internet and network technologies are increasing the potential to use computers to mediate collaborations between geographically dispersed individuals. However, building such systems is complex and consequently not well understood. This paper discusses the design of an experiment to study collaborative situations arising from two people collaboratively completing jigsaw puzzles. The research contributes to a broader study being undertaken with researchers at the University of Bath towards developing a more comprehensive model collaborative situations.
