Techniques that aid the realistic rendering of lighting effects achieved from linear (1-D) and area (2-D) light sources are presented. They are based on a radiosity model that can be inserted into any traditional ray tracer. The approach is applied to both a 1-D light, analogous to a fluorescent tube, and to a 2-D light, analogous to a light set into the ceiling.
