The template method is one of the most often used group of image transformations in digital image processing. In this paper we try to reveal the possibility of template methods on the perpendicular projections of 2D binary pictures. We examined the theoretical background of the template methods on projection pictures. As a result of this we created an algorithm, which accomplishes this template method. To illustrate the theoretical results, a special template method, the thinning method is implemented.
