Abstract

This paper addresses interactive function-based shapemodeling where relatively small formulas are used ratherthan thousands of polygons. Interactive modification ofthe function model with concurrent visualization of therespective polygonal mesh lets us provide both theinteractivity and any required level of detail leading tophoto-realistic appearance of the resulting shapes. Wehave proposed a rendering method capable of handlinglocal shape modifications with any desired precision. Also, we have proposed a few methods, which let usaccelerate the final function evaluation --a commonbottleneck for the function-based shape modeling. Finally, we describe applications of the interactivefunction-based shape modeling to photo-realistic virtualembossing and carving.
