The decomposition of a multi-valued sequential machine into an interconnection of two submachines with all feedback paths internal to the submachines is discussed. Different models for the interconnection of component machines along with the necessary and sufficient conditions for both serial and parallel decompositions are defined. Unicovered state assignment is also defined. Examples are given to illustrate the decomposition procedures.
