Abstract

In this paper, we discuss a synchronous, component-basedapproach to the modeling of avionics applications. The specification of the components relies on the avionicsstandard ARINC 653 and the synchronous languageSIGNAL is considered as modeling formalism. The POLYCHRONYtool-set allows for a seamless design processbased on the SIGNAL model, which provides possibilitiesof high level specifications, verification and analysis of thespecifications at very early stages of the design, and finallyautomatic code generation through formal transformationsof these specifications. This suits the basic stringentrequirements that should be met by any design environmentfor embedded applications in general, and avionics applicationsin particular.
