Abstract

Service discovery problem has recently been drawingmuch attention from researchers and practitioners. Jini,SLP, and UPnP are among the few emerging servicediscovery protocols. Although they seem to provide agood solution to the problem, there is an unaddressedneed of more sophisticated location and context-awareservice selection support. In this paper, we introduce theconcept of context attribute as an effective, flexible meansto exploit relevant context information during the servicediscovery process. Context attributes can express variouscontext information including service-specific selectionlogic, client, and network condition. We describe ourapproach and implementation, and present theexperimental results of our context-aware servicediscovery implementation.
