In this paper, we introduce our research for realizing a3D video display system in a very large-scale space suchas a soccer stadium, concert hall, etc. We propose amethod for describing the shape of a 3D object with a setof planes in order to synthesize a novel view of the objecteffectively. The most effective layout of the planes can bedetermined based on the relative locations of an observer'sviewing position, multiple cameras, and 3D objects. Wedescribe a method for controlling the LOD of the 3Drepresentation by adjusting the orientation, interval, andresolution of planes. The data size of the 3D model and theprocessing time can be reduced drastically. Theeffectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated byexperimental results.
