An important design challenge for complex DRE systems is to satisfy performance and reliability constraints while ensuring efficient exploration through a very large architectural design and implementation space. However, the application development process continues to be very manually driven, making the resulting system design inflexible and non-reusable. FORGE is an application development for DRE systems that will enable an application developer to structure and design software for platforms that may not exist or may be concurrently developed. Our approach is a systematic method to model architectures and a fundamental rethinking of the division of static versus runtime delegation of functionality.
