Abstract

One of the key requirements for an augmented realitysystem is a tracking system that determines the user'sviewpoint accurately. Many vision-based tracking systemsexhibit limited tracking range due to their dependence onpre-calibrated features. Previous extendible-trackingsystems only make use of point features. This paperdescribes an extendible tracking method that integratespre-calibrated landmarks and natural line features forcamera tracking. Extendible and robust tracking isachieved by dynamically calibrating prior uncalibrated 3Dstructure of line features. The experimental resultsindicate the effectiveness of this approach for extendingthe tracking range and reducing dependence on theprepared environment.
